Two of our budding divers, Karina and Senika, attended Novice Nationals in Regina during the May 25th weekend along with Coach Lydia.

In Girls Age Group D, Senika outperformed other divers to earn top spot and the gold medal on 3m, with silver medals on 1m and platform.
Similarly, Karina nabbed the gold medal on 1m in Girls Age Group C, with silver medals on 3m and platform.

For its 3rd international dive training camp, Coach Yan took a group of 8 divers to the bustling city of Hong Kong and the port city of Guangzhou over the Christmas holidays.
Over the course of 2 weeks, the divers got to train in world-class facilities, utilize the expertise of Chinese dive coaches, observe elite divers from other parts of Asia, and take in the amazing Chinese culture.
First stop was Hong Kong, where divers trained at the Kowloon Park Swimming Pool located right on the harbour. The Park is a huge public multidisciplinary area which hosts several sporting events and competitions, and also home to an aviary, bird lake and gardens.
The divers also had the opportunity to visit several sights in HK, take in a sampan ride, and ring in the New Year amongst the bustle of people and city lights!
After leaving HK, the divers really got down to business. Their home for the next 10 days was at the Weilun Sports School in Guangzhou, a comprehensive elite sports school that trains 18 of Guangzhou City’s sports teams and produces some of China’s Olympic athletes! Although the divers had an intense training schedule, they were excited to take advantage of the advanced facilities and didn’t even mind waking up for 6 am runs with the other athletes staying at the school!
It wasn’t all work for the divers though, and they were given time to explore the modern and ancient city of Guangzhou including a boat cruise on the Pearl River and Canton Tower at night. The highlight however was being around other divers, including training with members of the Japanese National Team, watching the Guangzhou Provincial Team in action, and reconnecting with Chinese divers that participated in iDive’s International Invitational Dive meet held in Vancouver last October. Overall, the camp was a tremendous success with our divers coming home with an understanding of new training disciplines as well as an appreciation for the unique and diverse culture of China. Thank you Yan and Brad for a great trip!

This past June, 3 divers from our club were named to represent Team BC at the Canada Summer Games. Alison Komlos, Sam Braun and Nicholas Nepomuceno were all chosen as part of a team of 8 divers from BC to compete at the Games in Winnipeg in August. Alison, Sam and Nick all started diving together in West Vancouver, and over the years trained and travelled together, competing at National and International events as teammates.
At the Games, which takes place every 4 years, our athletes competed against the top divers from across the country on 1m, 3m and platform events. They even had the opportunity to dive synchro with their teammates!
The divers had an unforgettable experience and grew in comradery with each other and the rest of their Team BC counterparts.
The BC dive team was also recognized as Team BC’s “True Sport Pur’s Ovation Moment of the Day” nominees for generously donating their lunches to Team Ontario divers, who did not have any.
For their gesture, they earned a highly coveted Team BC pin! We are very proud of Alison, Sam and Nick!

In mid-April, seven divers from iDive were part of the BC Provincial Team invited to compete in the Convocatoria “Copa Yumuri” 2017 International Dive Meet in Matanzas, Cuba. Sam, Nick, Toby, Alison, Sadie, Morgan and Veronica all travelled to the Caribbean nation for a week of training, competition, and fun, along with coach Yan and other provincial team members.
The BC Team was the only Canadian team competing in a field of Cuban divers from across the country. Our group performed well, despite the sometimes stormy weather and the challenge of diving outdoors. The divers were proud to land several podium finishes in all age groups, including synchro!
After a week of hard work, the team was able to enjoy the beautiful Cuban shores, and even had the opportunity to swim with dolphins. What an unforgettable experience it was for all the divers to compete in another country, meet new friends, and explore the culture of Cuba. Thank you BC Diving for this wonderful opportunity!

8 of iDive’s top divers travelled to Victoria to take part in the highly competitive 2017 Marc LePoole Speedo Sting. As this dive meet was the selection event for the Canadian Team at the upcoming international competition in Dresden, Germany, it saw over 140 divers representing 25 clubs from across Canada and also Stanford, California and Fort Lauderdale, Florida! The competition showcased top talent, with some Sting records being broken and several divers getting “stung” (their score bettered the National bronze medal score in that category from last year), earning them a special prize from Speedo.
We are proud of our divers, Sam, Nick, Toby, Alison, Sadie, Olivia, Veronica and Morgan for competing against a challenging and sizeable field. Special recognition go to Veronica (who got stung!) and Morgan, who both dove beautifully to earn themselves the gold and silver medal on the Women’s C 1 metre event. Congratulations also to Olivia, for competing in her first Women’s B DPC event!
These divers are now fully qualified for Junior Nationals this summer – well done!!

On October 29 and 30, 2016, iDive hosted its very first international dive meet, welcoming divers from Beijing, Hunan and Guang Dong provinces in China. Over 20 China divers competed in age group and open categories against BC divers from iDive, White Rock and Boardwords (Victoria). There was even a team event, where both Chinese and BC divers joined together to compete in a mixed format, including a rip competition, where 3 divers scored perfect 10’s from all the judges!
While the Chinese divers dominated the podium with their skill and grace, BC athletes also executed beautiful dives in their first competition this season. The event was a great way for divers to showcase their talent, forge new friendships and create lasting memories… a truly unforgettable experience for all!
Special thanks and acknowledgement go to the athletes, coaches, officials, numerous volunteers, sponsors and especially coach Yan Yang, for their part in making this event such a tremendous success!

iDive was well represented at Junior Elite Nationals, held July 22-24, 2016 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Nick and Sam (Group A: ages 16-18) and Alison (Group B: ages 14-15) travelled to the national championships and competed vigorously against top junior divers across the country to land top 12 finishes.
Sam came off an injury last season and rebounded to earn BC Provincial bronze medals on 1 m and 3 m springboard in May which qualified him for Nationals. He followed that up at Nationals with an overall 11th place finish on 1 m and 17th place on 3 m.
Nick, in his first year in Group A, dove to 16th place finishes on both 1m and 3 m springboard, but really showcased his strength on platform, where he finished 6th!
Alison held her own throughout the competition and dove beautifully on both 1m and 3 m springboards, bettering her scores from the preliminary round in the finals each time, to end in 6th place on both boards!
Congratulations Sam, Nick and Alison, and special thanks to coach Yan for her dedication throughout!
Group C diver (ages 12-13), Sadie, had an incredible competition at Junior Development Nationals in Montreal, Quebec July 8-10, 2016. In 1 m springboard, Sadie won the bronze medal after an excellent performance, just 1.5 points from the gold medal score! She also dove well on 3m springboard, climbing to a 5th place finish. This year, Sadie also competed on platform at Nationals for the first time, finishing in 14th place.
In addition, 11 year old Veronica, also competed in Group C in Montreal on 1m, 3m and platform against a large and talented field. She ended the competition in 13th place on 1m and platform, very narrowly missing top 12 finishes on both boards, and placed 14th on 3 m.
Well done Sadie and Veronica!

In March 2016, iDive held a very successful “Spring Break Competitive Training Camp” in Shanghai, China. Attending this 2 week camp, there were 10 Canadian divers (iDive) and 6 US divers (THDC USA), along with 3 of our competitive team coaches. Our divers had a unique opportunity to train within highly advanced dry-land training and specialized aquatic facilities within 3 world-level diving centers housing Chinese National Team members. Our divers also had a special opportunity to train alongside the Chinese team divers and their coaches that reside and train in the facilities. Many lasting friendships were made. During the training camp, our divers and parents also had a wonderful opportunity to participate in many fun excursions within Shanghai and the ancient water town of Wu Zhen. It was a wonderful athletic and cultural experience for our divers and coaches. There are many more training camps to come!

iDive’s newest member, Veronica, represented iDive at Junior Development Nationals, held July 3-5 in Quebec City. Under Yan’s coaching, Veronica qualified for Nationals on 1m and 3m, as well as on platform, which she only started diving this past year. At Nationals, Veronica dove a personal best score on 1m to finish in 4th place, missing the bronze medal by only 0.5 points! She followed that up with another 4th place finish on platform, and a 9th place on 3m. Her performance earned her both the BC Diving Outstanding Junior Female Athlete award for 2015 as well as iDive’s Female Diver of the Year.
Great job Veronica and coach Yan!
In March, iDive organized a very successful spring break training camp in Tianjin, China. There were 11 iDive divers, 4 White Rock divers and 3 coaches that attended this two-week camp. Our divers had a unique opportunity to train with highly advanced dry-land training and water facilities within the Tianjin Swimming and Diving Centre. They also had the opportunity to train alongside the Chinese divers and coaches that reside and train in the facility. Many lasting friendships were made. During the training camp, our divers and parents also had a wonderful opportunity to participate in several fun tours within Tianjin and then afterwards within Beijing, where they saw the historic sites of the Forbidden City, Hutong, the Great Wall and then visited the Chinese National Team during one of their dry-land training sessions in the National Sports Centre. It was a very special experience for them to watch the Olympic and World Champion Divers training, as well as greeting them. Our Divers also had the opportunity to cheer on some of the world’s best divers at the Beijing Olympic water cube during the World Tour of Diving.

Twenty-eight iDive athletes competed at the 2013 Candy Cane Invitational dive meet and BC Winter Games trials held Dec 7-8 at Walnut Grove Pool in Langley. Tier III events were held on Saturday and Tier II events plus the BC Winter Games trials were held on Sunday. Our athletes had a fantastic meet with many of them qualifying to compete at the BC Winter Games to be held in February 2014. Thanks to BC Diving as well as Fraser Valley Dive Club for putting on their annual Candy Cane meet!
Divers from our recreational program had a blast at this Tier III meet! 33 divers competed at the meet and spectators got to see some pretty fine diving from our athletes. For many of the E and F age divers it was their first meet and it looked like everyone had a fun time. C and D age parents and divers were treated to a diving demonstration from 4 of our Provincial team divers and that seemed to be a big hit. There were crowds of spectators from the pool watching our athletes compete and many happy faces during the awards. Thanks go to our judges, coaches and meet volunteers who made the event so special for the Tier III club divers and of course special thanks to Yan for putting on such a super event!
This year Dive Canada split the Jr. Nationals into two meets: Elite Nationals for divers in age groups B and A (14 through 18) and Developmental Nationals for divers in age groups D and C (under 11 through 13). iDive's Sam and Nina competed in the Elite Nationals held in Thunder Bay in July and Nick competed in the Developmental Nationals held in Saskatoon in August.
Jr. Elite Nationals, July 12-14, Thunder Bay Ont:
Both Nina and Sam did great at Nationals achieving individual 13th place finishes on one of their boards and each finishing in the top 10 in their 3m synchronized diving events (Sam with partner Kurt finished in 6th place and Nina with partner Carlyn finished in 10th). In the individual events Sam placed 17th on 1m, 20th on 3m and 13th on platform while Nina finished 13th on 1m, 16th on 3m and 17th on platform. We are very proud of both of you for your strong results!
Jr. Developmental Nationals, Aug 3-4, Saskatoon, Sask:
Thanks go to Saskatoon for holding this meet originally scheduled to be held in Calgary but moved because of the terrible flood damage to Talisman pool. Nick attended the meet and achieved a top 12 award finish on each board placing 8th on 1m, 7th on 3m and 6th on platform - an outstanding result, well done Nick! Congratulations go to all three divers and especially to Yan for your excellent coaching and 2013 Jr. Nationals results. Next up, Canada Games for Sam who is on the BC Canada Games Team - go Sam!

Approximately 40 divers representing their dive clubs iDive, Fraser Valley, White Rock, and the North Shore, spent their holiday Sunday of the Canada Day long weekend showing what it takes to be a Tier III competitive diver. Competitions ran on the 1m and 3m springboards for divers in age Groups C through F plus Open. These talented athletes were cheered on by parents, friends, family and their coaches. We saw smiles, heard cheers and a crowd of people enjoying the pool gathered to watch the meet. All the divers did really well and we are proud of each of them. iDive was so happy to host the meet and we want to extend our appreciation to Hillcrest Centre as well as the many volunteers, judges and helpers who attended and made the meet so special. A big thanks to iDive Head Coach Yan for coordinating such a great event (and providing the divers with the most beautiful ribbons and medals!). Congratulations to the meet participants, keep on diving!

Saanich Commonwealth Place in Victoria BC was a busy pool as divers from BC, Alberta and the US gathered to compete at the 2013 BC Summer Provincials and Canada Games Trials. Competing from iDive Vancouver were Lilly, Nina, Alen, Nick and Sam.
In huge iDive news, congratulations go to Sam who secured a spot on the BC Team competing at Canada Games. The Games will be held in Sherbrooke Quebec this August. The team includes the top 4 male and top 4 female divers in the province age 18 or less. It's a huge accomplishment for a diver in first year B (14 years old) to secure this spot and iDive is so proud to have Sam represent our Province at this meet! Also attending will be iDive Head Coach Yan who is also a BC Team Coach.
Other highlights from Summer Provincials include Nick becoming the overall C age BC Champion winning gold medals on each board, 1m, 3m and platform. Sam and Nina became fully qualified to compete all boards at Jr. Nationals securing second qualifying scores on 1m and platform respectively. Other medal finishes include Sam winning the silver medal on men's Open Platform and bronze in B group on both the 1m and Platform, Nina winning silver in B group platform and Alen winning bronze on D age 1m and 3m springboards. Lilly placed 5th on 1m and 3m springboards in B age.
We are so proud of all these athletes for their hard work and dedication to diving. A big thanks goes to Coach Yan for her ongoing commitment to excellence in sports training and for developing such amazing young athletes! Go team iDive!

This year's Marc Le Poole Speedo Sting and Dresden Trials, held at Saanich Commonwealth Place in Victoria BC, saw excellent competition from 129 of Canada's best youth divers as A and B age groups were vying for Team Canada spots to compete at the International Youth Diving Meet to be held in Dresden Germany in April. The meet is also one of three BC National qualifying competitions and generally BC's largest meet of the year with divers coming from Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC.

Our club divers were looking very good at the 2012 iDive Invitational dive meet held at Hillcrest Aquatic Centre on December 2, 2012. There were lots of parents, fans and friends out cheering
on these talented athletes as divers competed in Tier III age groups Open to F on the 1m and
3m springboards. For many divers this was their first ever dive meet and not only did they dive well but there were lots of smiles and fun on deck. Just fewer than 30 divers were in attendance including iDive athletes from Hillcrest, Watermania and Vancouver Aquatic Center.
Congratulations to all our divers who participated in this meet and especially those who earned medals.
Our Building Champions divers will be showing off their skills and competing for top spot in our Tier 3 invitational dive meet to be held December 2 at Hillcrest Aquatic Centre. What a year of "firsts" for iDive Vancouver: first year as a club, first Nationals qualified divers, and first finalist finishes at Nationals! Divers Cristian Soper, Kaelyn Burges and Nick Nepomuceno had a blast, lots of "rips" and made Head Coach Yan proud at 2012 Jr. Nationals.
★ Cristian 10th in Canada on 3m D age (22nd on 1m)
★ Kaelyn 11th in Canada on 1m C age (19th on 3m)
★ Nick 15th in Canada on 3m C age (17th on platform and 20th on 1m)
Nick also represented iDive in the prestigious Jr. Nationals "rip" contest. This is the only event at Nationals where divers from all age groups, one from each club, compete against each other for the cleanest entry also called the best rip. Diving from the 7.5m tower Nick rose to the occasion to make the finals and place 4th overall - a stellar performance.
Kaelyn and Cristian's top 12 finish qualify them to compete at the international Camo Invitational meet held in Montreal in December and will also place both on the Provincial Level 2 team. Nick's 15th place finish puts him on the Provincial Level 3 team. Congratulations to all 3 iDivers for an excellent performance at the 2012 Jr. Nationals.
A big congratulations and thanks to iDive Head Coach Yan Yang and her partner coach Grant Brehaut for brining this young team to such National success! Your outstanding leadership and coaching skills have resulted in an amazing inaugural Nationals! Congratulations also go to Grant's National divers from White Rock: Maddy, Carolyn, Nina, Carlyn and Shay. Way to go team iDive!
The BC Summer Games are held every 2 years and divers in either C age (12 and 13) or B age (14 and 15) can compete for their Provincial Zone if they win a qualifying spot on their team. iDivers Lilly Yi, Nicolas Tsitos and Morgan Dear all won qualifying nominations, competed at the Games and one even brought home double silver!
On both the 1m and 3m springboards Lilly won the BC Summer Games silver medals - well done and congratulations Lilly!
Morgan was close behind in 6th place on both springboards - great teamwork iDive!
In the men's events Nicolas placed 5th on 1m - a fantastic finish.
Highlights from the games include the torch ceremony, billeting at the school, marching in the opening ceremonies, and of course meeting old friends and making new ones too. Congratulations to iDive Vancouver's 2012 BC Summer Games athletes.
Springboard and tower divers from iDive Vancouver have been busy qualifying to participate in the BC Summer Games and 2012 Canadian Junior this July. The BC Games will be held in Surrey BC (July 19-22nd) and the Canadian Jr. Nationals will be held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (July 18-22nd). To qualify to compete at Jr. Nationals a diver must achieve the minimum qualifying score at a minimum of 2 sanctioned dive meets during their season. At least one of these meets must be a Group 1 meet and BC has only one of these in the year (the Marc LePoole Speedo Sting held February 2012 in Victoria, BC). In order to compete at BC Summer Games a diver must qualify to represent their zone and this year’s qualifying meet, the Irene MacDonald/BC Games Trials, was held in Vancouver in June. The diver must qualify for each board they wish to compete on.
Heading to the 2012 Canadian Junior Nationals are Cristian Soper on the 1m and 3m springboards; Nicholas Nepomuceno on the 1m, 3m springboards plus platform tower; and Kaelyn Burgess on the 1m and 3m springboards. For Soper and Burgess this is their first trip to Nationals and for Nepomuceno this is his third trip to Nationals. Soper will compete in the 11 and under age group while Burges and Nepomuceno will compete in the 12 and 13 year age group.
The highlight of the regular competitive season for Burgess was winning the 1m and 3m springboard gold medals at the BC Provincial Championships in June and for Nepomuceno it was winning the silver medal on platform and bronze on 3m at the Western Canadian Championships last April in Regina. All three divers are excited to represent iDive Vancouver in its inaugural year at Canadian Jr. Nationals.
On the Zone 5 BC Games team, representing Vancouver-Squamish, are Nicholas Tsitos, Lilly Yi and Morgan Dear. Yi and Dear will compete on both the 1m and 3m springboards while Tsitos will compete on the 1m springboard. All three divers are in the 12 / 13 year age group. Yi is also qualified to compete at Canadian Jr. Nationals on the 1m springboard but has chosen to compete instead at the BC Games. Yi won the gold medal at the qualifying competition on both the 1m and 3m springboards.
Join us in wishing all our iDivers the best as they head off for a busy set of competitions later this month.
